DOMINO’S ROUNDS UP FOR CHARITY (AU)

Domino’s Pizza Enterprises Limited (“Domino’s”) registered charity, Give for Good has launched a new initiative called Round Up for Charity introducing crowd-sourced philanthropy to pizza loving customers.

When Domino’s customers place their order online, they will now be given the option to round up their order to the nearest dollar where their small change is set to make a BIG change.

Give for Good Director of Giving, John Harney said microdonations have the power to create a significant impact.

“We trialled this initiative online and found that over 10 per cent of customers opted to generously round up their order and donate their small change to charities and organisations who need it the most,” Mr Harney said.

“When you consider Domino’s sells over one million pizzas a week, this small change has the power to make a huge difference in supporting charitable initiatives in Australia.”

Not-for-profit organisations are increasingly needing to adapt to the changing ways in which people are choosing to donate to make giving as fast and convenient as possible.

“We have always said that pizza brings people together, so it makes sense to us that donation-based crowdfunding or crowd-sourced philanthropy would be popular with our customers because it draws people together behind a worthy cause.

All funds raised through the Round Up for Charity go towards Give for Good to support initiatives related to education and youth initiatives; leadership and entrepreneurship; rural communities; as well as disaster relief.

“Together our customers are connected to helping be a part of something bigger and that sense of community is much bigger than just a love for great tasting pizza.”

Mr Harney said Give for Good had already supported 15 disadvantaged young people with their tertiary studies by providing financial assistance to cover education-related costs such as textbooks, stationery and other learning resources via the Smith Family.

“Give for Good also recently donated $40,000 to Rural Aid, in addition to funds raised by local Domino’s stores, to support farmers affected by drought with cattle feed and other essential items.”

The original concept for Round Up for Charity came from Domino’s own team members, including two franchisees, during a company leadership program.

David Bird, the local franchisee of Domino’s Muswellbrook and Scone, said the idea was originally born as a way to respond to natural disasters.

“We originally came up with the idea as an online tool that could be switched on in times of natural disasters so that we could help raise vital funds for disaster relief,” Mr Bird said.

“It’s exciting to see Round Up for Charity go live nationally and be able to support lots of different initiatives across Australia.

“I think it’s really important for us to give back to the communities in which we operate and particularly for me personally, living in drought-affected regional New South Wales, it’s great that we can support famers and rural communities.”

Canberra multi-unit franchisee Chad Cable said the idea was simple but had the potential to make a huge impact.

“We presented the idea to the Domino’s Leadership Team and hoped it could make a difference in helping out the community,” Mr Cable said.

“It’s great to see Round Up for Charity finally getting off the ground and it puts a smile on my face to know that customers are contributing to charity and their local community.”
